Walter Huston

1884 ó 1950

The Huston family was Hollywood royalty; his son, John, the director and writer, had both talent and flair. But Walter, who capped his career with an Academy Award, had modest beginnings in small time stock theatre and small time vaudeville. Walter Huston was tall, manly and handsome, but he didnít make much of an impact as an actor until after his success in vaudeville. It was his second wife, Bayonne Whipple who sacrificed star career for his. She made John her vaudeville partner and then took to managing his solo career.

Huston became an accomplished song-and-dance comedian in vaudeville and finally attracted the attention of playwrights and Broadway producers. He switched to the legitimate stage and then became a movie star and married again.
